Maybe I've got this livejournal thing figured out... Hello... ummm... anyone? I've decided to try setting up a livejournal account where I can dump thoughts about writing, fanfiction, and the latest chapters of my story, A Marriage of Convenience. Once I get the hang of how this all works, I'd really like to spruce up this page, but until then I hope this works ok!
It looks like you are starting to get the hang of it. I would suggest you get a semagic or some other remote updating tool it makes things a lot easier when you want to start doing stuff like cuts or listing other users.
Layout wise, I tend to prefer the KSS approach to things. I don't like overly ornamented journals. I find them hard to read and distracting.
However, eventually you will want to get user icons if only because they can be so much fun. The one I just used in this comment is one of my favorites that I just don't get to use as much as I want. But it is an example of the tone you can set with an icon.
