AMOC wedding illustration
So.... I've been working on this in the time I'd usually be writing...  I hope you don't hate me too much, it's put me waaaay behind in my story (I've thought about, but not actually started ch 10 at all)  It's a scene that won't even occur in ch 10 either, but I'd reeeeally wanted to illustrate Sakura's dress, that way when the wedding does come around, I can point to this picture and say "See!  He finds out about her chakra focus mark because of this dress!"

Anyway, they're walking down steps that I haven't drawn yet, following a ceremony I haven't written yet....

Drawing Gaara in Kazekage robes was hard!  I didn't like the regular outfit, with the swag around his neck,  I wanted to draw him in his cool Deidara fight outfit, but with the robe over top of it.  Also, there's not one single canon picture of Gaara with his Kazekage hat on!  If someone knows of one, tell me!  Because I sure couldn't find it.  So I used the Sandaime from the Chunin exam as model pictures of what the hat should look like.  And I left their hands and feet to the last, the hands I finished up ok.... but their feet are really atrocious.  I just decided tonight to draw what I had in and get it over with.

Sakura's got ribbons in her hair and as a boquet, because I'm thinking that the citizens of Suna will give the exchange members ribbons to welcome them to the city.  Or maybe they'll just give them to Sakura as good luck fertility charms... I haven't decided :D  Fertility charms would be sooo much funnier...  Anyway!  She accepts these gifts and decides to use them in her wedding outfit, to thank the people for welcoming her.  (Becoming a princess of the people and all that... I'm sort of thinking Princess Diana here.)

Sakura's dress, btw, is modeled on an ancient Egyptian style I found in one of my books on Egypt.   Preeeety.....

In Naruto Suna culture seems to be closer to Arabic/ Bedouin, but that's just too conservative for what I want to write, so I decided to blend it with ancient Egyptian some.  Yay ancient Egypt, more civil liberties for women than existed in our own country a hundred years ago!

Ok, now I've got this out of my system, I think I might be able to get back to writing....  Code of Kodu and all!!  ;D

Ye Gods is that pretty. The art and the statue. I liked that you used ribbons, flowers would be a waste of resources in the desert.

I don't have a problem with you creating pretty art instead of writing. Then again, I am one of those strange people who have patience when it comes to stories. I've been waiting seven years for the last novel in a series I love to come out - I can wait for a well written chapter.

Not to mention I can't say anything since I am the queen of slow writing.

But still - bloody lovely.

that is amazing! she's beautiful! and Gaara looks great too! i like the idea of ribbons(were would you find flowers in a dessert anyway) and totally go with the fertility thing! it would be hilarious! and again with the research! i really like it.

now truthfully I'm an impatient person. i HATE waiting. but since I've been reading your story I've been more excited the aggravated. (imagine a little kid before Christmas)I'm so ready for the next chapter!

good luck!

ps-your character development is great! everyone acts the way they would in the manga! great job!

Yeah that was my thought too, I mean, I already did the whole flower thing, and they're not going to have flowers everywhere in the desert anyway. So I thought, what would a young boy give a young girl he's courting, if he can't give flowers? Umm... pretty ribbons!! :D

Beautifully drawn, and I love the ideas you have behind the picture (You're right, fertility ribbons would be hilarious!). I'm head over heels with Sakura's dress (Great ingenuity on the design, by the way.), and am openly gaping at Gaara's swooshy robes...

...Yes, I said 'swooshy.'

On a side note.... can I color this, PLEASE! *puppy dog eyes*

Oh... Umm... sure! If you want to, I didn't think anyone would be interested in coloring it, but I'll upload a high res version for you if you'd like. It'll have to be after I get home tonight though... Running out to meet friends and watch Heroes!!! Hiro is my Hero!!

Awesome, that would be great! I have Photoshop, you see, and I love practicing my computer shading and coloring skills by getting my hands on any good lineart I can find. Thanks!

(Heroes sounds pretty cool, but I've never gotten the chance to watch it. What time does it usually come on?)

9pm Eastern, on NBC. It's soooo cool, the season's almost over, so I suggest just wait until it finishes, then get the dvds (or download the episodes) that way you don't have to agonize over the wait to find out what happens! :D

Hey, i was wondering the other day about something that might be of interest to you. Does Gaara have a last name? I looked in all the mangas, and checked out some websites but no luck. I asked my bro and he said "Of corse he does, it's the same as Temari and Konkuru!" ......."well what is it!"
"Of the sand!" (sweat drop) any way, i wondered what they would call her, Haruno? Would she have no last name? or Mrs. of the sand?

If you feel like using it, this might be a funny thing for Temari and Sakura to converse about. (ya know like while she helps Sakura dress for the wedding, or maybe the're just bonding)
I'm not pressuring, just thought it would be a funny idea Good Luck!

Yeah, AFAIK no one from Suna has a last name in the canon universe, and Gaara's the only one that's ever referred to as anything MORE than his name. I've been thinking about it, and one fic I read (but I can't remember which for the life of me!) had the naming convention for Suna done in a very clever way. Their way was that Konoha people had first and last names like us, but Suna people were named _for_ something. Gaara of the Desert. Kankuro of the Puppets, Temari of the Wind. It was a more Native American take I think, and it took the only full name we do know (Gaara's) and expanded on the idea. (My Native American name is Runs With Scissors ...bwahahaha!!!!)

I like the idea a lot, but I don't remember who the author was, and I'm hesitant to use it without asking them first. If their idea isn't exactly like what I've talked about above, I'll probably use that. I'm definitely not using Mrs. Of The Sand.... ugh! :D Though, when said in Japanese, Sabaku no Sakura doesn't really sound bad... She could adopt her husband's title, or make up her own. Hmmm...

And I think it's a brilliant idea to have Temari and Sakura talking about it, thank you so much for suggesting! I can't make any promises, but I'll add it to my notes and hopefully I'll get the chance to include it. You don't have to have an account to leave comments, but it'd be nice if you left your handle in your comment, like signing an email or something. That way I can thank a specific person instead of just "anon" in my comments!

lol I usually go by MC (my initials)my friends call me that all the time....actually I'm not sure they know my full name......XP

Yea thats a hard topic cause the people of Suna can't just call he Sakura (at least not right away) she's the wife of their leader so they should address her formally right? and Temari seems like she would want to have a sister (with Emo McGee, and Jim Henson for brothers)so the bonding idea seems plausible.
Im really excited, i wanna know what happens next! but I can wait...

That's an interesting idea.

I also read a fic (by an author I don't remember) where the Suna people identified people by their ancestors. So Temari would be something like Temari of the Yondaime Kazekage. But Gaara's situation was different since his father would rather kill him, so he wasn't identified through his father and instead his village (I think), thus you have Gaara of the Sand. Well, the author made it sound much better than I did. ^_^'

^^ Such a pretty design! My compliments to the artwork and to "AMOC" its a really great piece of work. I love the idea of fertility ribbons. I can just imagine the look on Sakura's face XD When I first saw Sakura's dress I was like wow... plunging neckline there. But I'm sure Gaara's happy with that. Even though he doesn't show it.

Who am I? Well I've found your account at ff.net and have been kinda keeping up to date. (I'm pretty shy when it comes to coming up to a person and goin hi!) But I figured what the heck? I hope you didn't mind but I also drew a bit of fanart for you, its on my livejournal page if your curious to look at it. Keep up the great work!
